2013 was such an awesome and growing year for Erica Ann Photography! We moved to downtown Portland and I finally have a studio to call my own! No more borrowing, renting and begging for studio space! I now have a beautifully lit, clean and private space to photograph all of my beautiful clients in! Last year I ran several boudoir marathons at various locations. It worked, but it wasn’t ideal. This year, nearly all of the photoshoots were done in my studio. Now we have no time pressure and best of all I don’t have to deal with the dreaded creativity brain freeze at the end of a long day of shooting. Each woman receives a full hour or usually more for hair and makeup. We have plenty of time to discuss outfits and I can get to know each woman better and find out the best way of capturing each individual personality.

Last year I got to photograph women ranging in age from 17 to 65! I had two sisters come in, a mother and daughter duo and I even got to photograph my own sister and mom. (See if you can pick them out – hint: they look a lot alike, but nothing like me)

Oh, and don’t forget the PILLOWFIGHT! Lol, that was kind of a secret undisclosed wish of mine, so when I overheard three friends joking about doing a pillowfight at the end of their shoots, you can bet I was all over that! We found the nearest feather pillows and cut them open for a good old fashioned smack down. (Sorry, no husbands allowed in the shooting arena)

So, I’m still figuring what to call this genre of portraiture. In the past, I always used the term “boudoir photography” but I don’t think that’s really accurate for most of my clients. Maybe contemporary glamour or beauty photography? What do you think? Anyway, whatever you wanna call it, my goal is to make each woman look her best and know how beautiful she is. We all have our own beauty and allure, my job is to bring it out!
