Their wedding day started out on a crisp sunny day in January. Cate was more concerned with making sure all of her bridesmaids were comfortable and feeling beautiful than I think she was with herself. (Two of them were pregnant so that may have been a factor!) After their first look in front of the Cultural Center, we all headed over to Hoover Park (named after Herbert Hoover, he’s kind of a big deal in Newberg). We just caught the last rays of sun before their ceremony.

The space had a very dark and moody atmosphere with red lighting on the walls, yellow drop pendant lights, patterned projections on the movable walls and of course, long horned cow skulls! It was bold and unique – I love getting to see new styles.
The unique lighting was also a fun challenge for lighting as well. As you can see from some of the dancing pictures towards the end, it was overall a very dark space. However, the walls were lit from projection, so I couldn’t just blast light into the whole place. I had to be very directional and only light up my particular subject of focus, otherwise the walls would be washed out and lose their effect.
Sagina and Maurice were married last month on a beautiful sunny winter day at the Abernethy chapel. Sun and December are usually in direct conflict here in Portland but their winter wedding day was perfect! They’ll be receiving a 30 page 10×10 canvas cover wedding album and 10×10 parent book to remember their special day. Putting the album together is pretty much my favorite part of being a wedding photographer. I love telling the story and designing all of the elements to emphasize all of the unique and beautiful moments of each wedding day.
