If you're wondering what to expect from your engagement session:
- What should we wear?
- I recommend planning two outfits each. One set could be a little fancier (who doesn't love a good cocktail dress?) and one a little more casual.
- Think about colors that compliment each other but aren't matchy matchy. I like to stick to more solids so we don't have conflicting patterns, but this session is really all about reflecting your style so don't hold yourself back from leopard print if that's your thing!
- Where should we go?
- We should go somewhere that is meaningful to you two! For something more sentimental, we could go to wherever the question was popped or where you had your first date together.
- I also love centering photoshoots around fun activities together. For you that might mean wine tasting, an amusement park, kayaking or even a hot air balloon ride. The sky's the limit! (pun intended)
- Travel is free anywhere within 30 miles of Portland and available outside Portland for a reasonable fee.
- Are the digital images included in the cost of my engagement session fee?
- The short answer is, unfortunately, no.
- For my wedding couples, the session fee is waived because it is worth it to me to have a "practice shoot" with them before the big day.
- For those interested in the a la carte engagement session, the price covers only the time to plan and capture the session. This means that you don't have to commit to purchasing images that you haven't even seen yet.
- Why should I do an engagement session?
- Engagement sessions are a two way street. I get to know you and see what works and what doesn't, and you get to know my style and feel more comfortable on your wedding day.
- Plus, you need beautiful photos for your 'save-the-dates' and guest book. It's also nice to have variety for your walls instead of all wedding attire photos.
- Should I get my makeup and hair done?
- If you're planning to do professional hair and makeup for your wedding, then I would say yes, definitely.
- The engagement session is a great time to use your trial run and help make your day just a little bit more special.
- When should we do the shoot?
- First, let's plan the shoot as soon as you get engaged. This could be a year and a half before your wedding, six months, 2 week, whatever.
- Second, the best time of day is usually the two hours before sunset (or two hours after sunrise, but who wants to get up that early?) and each session is different so we'll figure out the perfect time for you!
- Can we bring our dog? Kid?
- Absolutely!
- My only caveat is that we probably don't want your furchild or real child in every shot, so its best to bring someone who can take care of them while we're shooting.
- When will we see our photos?
- Your photos will be ready within two weeks of your session.
- I'll have you over to my studio in downtown Portland, and after enjoying some refreshing beverages, we'll admire your beautiful faces on my 60" screen and you can decide what you'd like to order at that time.
